‘Streets of Amsterdam’-series
When it’s hot, it’s hot – and one needs something to cool down, right? š

Oops!! I don’t remember what I was doing… Maybe I was distracted just for a moment. Probably I was just looking in another direction, trying to spot an upcoming event to catch in a street shot… So I didn’t see this coming at all, and only realised that it could make an interesting shot as they were already passing straight in front of me: a whole group of tourists, in a hurry to catch their train, dragging their suitcases on wheels behind them. I still turned and zoomed in, trying to catch them from the back, but… too late! Only the disappearing suitcases on the upper edge of the frame, leaving my disappointed shadow behind them. Still a fun street shot, don’t you think LOL? At least I think it’s comic! Maybe someone can come up with a striking caption? Feel free to give it a try!

Lady with blue hat is turning her back to “het Amsterdams Lieverdje” (“the Amsterdam Little Darling”)) – statue on Spui square. The square is decorated with balloons in the National colours and orange flags, for the Soccer World Championship 2014.
Admitted, they are attractive, decorative and delicious, these huge round ‘Old Amsterdam’ cheeses, piled up in the window display, in yellow and black. And great to take home as a gift after a vacation in the Netherlands too!Ā The old Amsterdam houses reflecting in the shop window and the everywhere present bicycles add to the ‘typical Holland’ atmosphere…
Day before yesterday, ‘Playful’ was chosen to be featured at the RedBubble homepage. That’s a great honour, and I was so delighted about it, that I decided to make it my second pic to upload to this photo blog.
This photo of this playful group of children is one of a series photographs that is somehow precious to me.
I made them long ago, 1992, when we travelled to Ethiopia for a meeting. It was only a few years after the war, the poverty was appalling⦠And these kids⦠they just allowed me photographing them, with a spontaneity that touched my heart.
Even now, so many years later, I still bow for them, in reverence.
Yes, indeed, it was an incredible experience⦠one never to forget. And thatās exactly what makes these pics so preciousā¦: the images help me to remember, more lively than my memory ever couldā¦
