‘Streets of Amsterdam’-series

Admitted, they are attractive, decorative and delicious, these huge round ‘Old Amsterdam’ cheeses, piled up in the window display, in yellow and black. And great to take home as a gift after a vacation in the Netherlands too!  The old Amsterdam houses reflecting in the shop window and the everywhere present bicycles add to the ‘typical Holland’ atmosphere…

So here is my first week’s collection (+1 extra):

Two boys and the wolves

It’s already a few weeks on Saturdays that I’ve been following a photography course in Artis Amsterdam zoo. Last Saturday, it was the 3d out of 4 meetings, and our assignment of the day was to make a photo-story with a series of images. We had the first snow just a day before, so it was a special occasion to make photo’s on a snowy but sunny day in Artis. I had hoped that maybe I could go make some pics at the Arctic wolves’ enclosure that day, because I knew that a new group of wolves had arrived at the zoo some time last year, and some months a go, the news had been spread that three young wolves were born. So since I hadn’t been able to go see them yet, this assignment would make for a great opportunity to go see what was happening at the wolves’ .

I must say, I really was lucky with the photo-opportunities, and enjoyed my afternoon with the wolves, and those two boys, they did too 😉 …

Playful

Day before yesterday, ‘Playful’ was chosen to be featured at the RedBubble homepage. That’s a great honour, and I was so delighted about it, that I decided to make it my second pic to upload to this photo blog.

This photo of this playful group of children is one of a series photographs that is somehow precious to me.
I made them long ago, 1992, when we travelled to Ethiopia for a meeting. It was only a few years after the war, the poverty was appalling… And these kids… they just allowed me photographing them, with a spontaneity that touched my heart.
Even now, so many years later, I still bow for them, in reverence.

Yes, indeed, it was an incredible experience… one never to forget. And that’s exactly what makes these pics so precious…: the images help me to remember, more lively than my memory ever could…
